Our story takes place in the flamboyant, edgy
world of 1986 Key West on the eve of the annual autumnal 'Fantasy Fest' carnival celebration. It is a night of
moody, mysterious magic. After opening shots and meeting our main characters, the Parade begins after
sunset.
Produced in part by Piccolo Productions, we are
presently raising funds to jump-start dance workshops with featured
choreographer and collaborator, Chris Houston. Our dancers are primarily from Franco
Dragone productions, Cirque du Soleil plus a handful of young European
stars.
Preliminary discussions have been initiated with several ballet companies to incorporate their corps de ballet in select scenes. It is our desire to invite top students from a prestigious dance school to participate in the film.
The cities of Jerusalem and Rome will serve as back drops for several dream sequences, with on location shooting to take place in Key West. 'Duval Street' the
main focus of the Carnival Parade will be recreated in a sound stage.
The musical score is a vital protagonist defining the character, structure and storyline of the ballet. An eclectic blend of melodies incorporating a universal spirit, the score features American songbook classics, Gorecki's 'Totus Tuus,' original compositions, iconic disco hits, a Puccini aria, the haunting voices of Ofra Haza and Miriam Makeba.
The synthesis of compositions incorporates musical
variations from Brazil, Cuba, India, Ireland, Israel, Mexico, Spain and
Yemen.
The range of styles includes Bahamian street music, chorals,
African drumming to that purely American musical genre, Gospel.
All of the music chosen supports choreographic styles that are as rich and diverse as the music itself: jazz, tap, disco, salsa, hip-hop, SWOP, modern, classical ballet, contemporary ballet, circus arts, mime and acrobatic partnering.
